Hiking the hillsides surrounding Crescent Lake can be a great way to spend one of your days at Redoubt Mountain Lodge. Whether easy, moderate or difficult, guests have a variety of hikes to choose from. All hikes are led by knowledgeable naturalist guides.
Snow Cave trek is an easy to moderate hike for all skill levels. Walk along side a small glacial stream leading to an impressive canyon and towering snow cave being carved out by run-off.
Waterfall hike is an easy hike through colorful fireweed patches leading to a 60ft cascading waterfall. Pick edible berries alongthe way.
Eagles Nest trail is a moderate hike beside a steep and turbulent glacial creek opening up into a grassy meadow with beautiful photo opportunities.
Moose Loop trek is an easy to moderate hike following well-traveled game trails. Examine animal tracks as you walk these trails to a large meadow where moose have been seen feeding. Test your skill at calling in a moose.
Pyramid Mountain hike is an all day adventure not for the faint of heart; conquer this rugged 3300ft-mountain peak & enjoy the limitless views of the North Aleutian Range (including Mt. Iliamna & Mt. Redoubt).
Glacier Hike is another all day adventure testing your strength and endurance. Enjoy a massive glacial wash of granite boulders alongside a rushing creek in pursuit of touching the immense glacier. This is a very difficult hike and can only be attempted at certain times due to large amounts of run-off.
The Bowl, by far our most popular trek. It is a moderate hike with spectacular views the entire way. Follow a dried stream bed through small stands of tag alder, fireweed and blueberries up a gradual slope leading to a picturesque amphitheater-like valley head also known as a cirque. Glass the surrounding hillsides for brown & black bears foraging for blue berries, drinking out of the valley stream or playing with their cubs.Choose to end the hike here or continue up to “Heather Meadow”.
This is where the adventure goes from great to outstanding. Watch the Crescent River Valley & Mt. Redoubt reveal more and more of itself as you procede to the top. If you have the energy, hike along the knife ridge above “Heather Meadow”. Your extra effort will certainly be worth it! Take in the 360 degree views of Crescent Lake, Valley, Mt . Redoubt and Tuxedni Bay.
